1. Ålesund
Known as Norway’s most beautiful city, Ålesund is located in the Northwestern fjord region in Norway. A highly popular tourist destination, Ålesund attracts over a million visitors every year – and the number keeps on growing every year! The city’s beauty can especially be seen from Mt. Aksla (photo above), located 130 meters above sea level. The viewpoint can be reached by a footpath consisting of 418 steps, or alternatively by road if you’re not too keen on climbing. Close to Ålesund you will also find several of Europe’s most beautiful nature attractions, including the world famous UNESCO World Heritage site the Geirangerfjord, the Hjørundfjord and the serpentine road Trollstigen. A visit to Ålesund is highly recommended if you ever visit Norway.
2. Tromsø
Located in the far north, above the Arctic circle, Tromsø is the perfect place to visit for experiencing the midnight sun, polar nights and the beautiful northern lights. The city’s most popular attraction is the Tromsø cable cars, which takes you to a viewpoint located over 400 meters above the city. Here you have an excellent view over the city and the surrounding nature. Close to Tromsø you will find several beautiful nature attractions, including the Lyngen alps and the mountainous island of Senja. A little south of the city you will also find the world famous Lofoten, known for its dramatic mountains, fjords, small villages - and whale safaris! A few hours north of Tromsø you will find Nordkapp, the northernmost point of mainland Europe.
3. Bergen
Norway’s second largest city, Bergen is located on the beautiful west coast of Norway. The town is famous for the Bryggen (the dock), which is a series of Hanseatic heritage buildings located at the harbour in Bergen city centre. It was added to the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage sites in 1979. The city’s beauty can be seen from Mt. Fløy, located over 300 meters above the sea level. Easily reached by a funicular system that transports passengers in just 8 minutes, the viewpoint provides an excellent view over Bergen and the surrounding nature. Bergen is also known for being the gateway to the fjords. Close to the city you’ll find several beautiful attractions, including the Hardangerfjord - Norway’s second longest fjord, the Folgefonna glacier, the Hardangervidda mountain plateau, Vøringsfossen waterfall and the UNESCO World Heritage site the Nærøyfjord.
4. Stavanger
Located in southwest Norway, Stavanger is known for being the oil capital in Norway. In the city you’ll find colorful streets with beautiful, stylish architecture. And here you can also find some of Norway’s best restaurants! The city is a great starting point in exploring the beautiful Southwest Norway. Close to the city you’ll find the Lysefjord, the Pulpit Rock, Kjerag and many other spectacular nature attractions.
5. Oslo
